April Chat

Monday 9th April 2012 1:21 AM

Hello and welcome to the April bulletin. The birds are starting to sing again and the clocks have gone forward, so it feels like spring is here. It will be nice to get some fresh air in the evenings. With that in mind, if you know a short walk, maybe close to your home, why not put it into the bulletin in the summer months for an evening walk. If there is a nice pub at the end of it for a drink, so much the better.

The Committee met again in March, and once again David and Sylvia presented encouraging reports on club finances and membership respectively. Whilst we had one new full member over the last two months, we have a number of Introductory Members and enquirers. Geoff is succeeding in getting us coverage in the local papers, and our web site has received favourable comments thanks to Gail's continuing work. We had a discussion on what to do for this year's Summer Event, but have not come up with anything concrete at the moment. It was felt that it might be good to tie in with a local day-time event and then have a meal in the evening. If you know of a local event which might fit the bill, please get in touch with a Committee member.
At the January committee meeting we agreed to donate the money raised from the Christmas Card scheme to the Woodhead Mountain Rescue. However, while tracking down a contact for the group I found that there is a group more local to us, namely the Holme Valley Mountain rescue. We therefore deferred sending the cheque until the March meeting, and we have now agreed to send the money raised to this group.
If I don't see you at the Annual Dinner, I hope to see you at an event in April.
Best wishes,
Phil.
