Downunder and Return

Monday 29th June 2009

I have been home from Perth now for 8 weeks and how the time has flown. I meant to do a short write-up for the June Bulletin, but ran out of time so here I am with the final instalment of my trip.

I spent the last month or so in Perth doing all manner of maintenance jobs for Mum and Dad. Things they are unable to do now - painting, gardening, heavy cleaning and so on. Fortunately the weather continued to be glorious until well after I left. My Dad's 90th Birthday was great with over 20 family members meeting for a lunchtime BBQ at my nephew's house. I left Perth a few days later and at the end of April Dad passed his yearly driving test. This is his 73rd year of driving but he will have to go through the test again next year if he wants to continue to have some independence. Both he and my Mum are well but starting to feel the cold of winter. I don't think it's any colder than it is here, but after 54 years of living in Perth their blood has thinned. Which brings me to my return to UK.I had a good flight back and it is really wonderful to be with Paul again plus I've managed to catch up with loads of you at various IVC events. We seem to have been really busy since I arrived and I still haven't managed to contact quite a few friends. Hopefully we will get to see everyone soon. I am having real trouble keeping warm and I really do wish it would turn into a lovely warm summer for everyone.

I will be going back to Perth towards the end of September this year. I'm not sure how long for but I will be able to help Mum and Dad as they become more and more frail and in need of assistance, and because I think I would freeze to death in winter here if it is as cold and snowy as last years.

That's it folks. I look forward to seeing you at an IVC event really soon.

Doreen
