Burnsall to Bolton Abbey
Sunday morning 17th April dawned bright, as so many mornings have this spring, and we had what Paul (the weatherman) Hudson describes as "wall to wall sunshine". Our party gathered at Bolton Abbey at 10:30 and we caught the bus to Burnsall, which was a very pleasant ride through the Dales countryside. On arrival we soon smelled the wonderful aroma of frying bacon. As there was a long queue for the ladies there was a good opportunity to order sandwiches and cups of tea, and one by one, members of our party gave in to temptation.
Our leader was patient, and eventually we did get underway, walking alongside the river Wharf enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and the sound of the water. We came to the place which had been designated as the lunch stop, but nobody was hungry - I wonder why. Continuing on we found another suitable
place by which time we had built up an appetite, and we sat on the river bank watching the bird-life and the river-life, including some canoeists.
Further down-stream, we came upon a road, and a parked ice-cream van, but we just passed it by, tempting though it was. Arriving at the Strid, we phoned Nicola (now have camper van and will travel) W, who had turned back with one dog, and she soon arrived with her vehicle. Parking up, she quickly had the kettle on and made Tea for us all, which we enjoyed with cake brought from Cumbria by Janet. Nobody really wanted to leave, but as the sun lost its heat we split up and made our way back home, having enjoyed an excellent day in the Dales. Thanks to Sylvia and Nicola
